The Fire Police are probably the most visible members of the
Perkasie Fire Company. In addition to controlling crowds and directing
traffic at fire and emergency scenes, the 13 member force are found at
community events such as parades, Community Day, Fall Fest, car shows, and
football games. In 2004, the Fire Police logged over 3,000 service hours.
They also avail themselves to the Perkasie and Pennridge Regional Police
Departments for traffic and crowd control.
When dispatched, PennsylvaniaState law entitles the Perkasie
Fire Police the authority to regulate traffic and crowds at, or in the
vicinity, of any emergency scene. They have the ability to exercise
appropriate police authority at an emergency scenes in order to maintain
order and facilitate the duties of the fire fighters and police.
The primary responsibility of the fire police is to ensure
the safety of the fire fighters, the police, and the general public. They
control intersections and aid fire trucks responding to an emergency, they
maintain a safe border around an emergency scene, and they do crowd
control. Their concern is safety and they appreciate the cooperation of the
community while performing their duties.
